The Vice President, Human Resources is the senior HR thought-partner to the executive leadership team of the Aetna Medicare business, a business that announced a new leader earlier in 2024. This HR leader will work closely with both the SVP, CPO for Aetna and the President of Medicare to review and refresh the operating model of the Medicare business to best position this team to compete fiercely in the market while advancing overall CVS Health enterprise priorities. The Aetna Medicare business is one of the organization’s largest business units at more than $60 billion in revenue and is a key driver of the company’s overall growth. The business’s key product areas include Individual and Group Medicare Advantage Plans, Prescription Drug Plan, Duals, and the Medicare Supplemental offerings.

As the HR Leader of this important business, this role will shape the future of Aetna’s Medicare team by partnering with the new Medicare leader to ensure the development of robust strategies to attract and nurture top health care talent while ensuring our existing professionals are engaged and retained. This role is also responsible for targeted strategies on recruiting and retaining top talent, optimizing organizational capacity and design, long-term talent planning, enhancing colleague learning opportunities, colleague engagement, growth and development, and change management.

This role is ideal for a high-level operational and strategic thinker who is comfortable working hands on with the team across the business lines. Success in this role hinges upon a leader’s ability to lead, influence and execute successfully in a matrix organization along with a passion for building a winning team. Major Responsibilities

  • Deliver strategic business advisory consulting to executive business leaders in Medicare to support the transformative agenda; contribute to the articulation of the Medicare strategy for 2024 and beyond

  • Translate the emergent Medicare agenda into best-in-class talent solutions, aligned talent management practices, workforce effectiveness plans, and/or organizational effectiveness strategies in support of this evolving business strategy

  • Team with business leaders to organize optimal structure inclusive of the human capital requirements; evaluating and adjusting human capital based on exogenous and internal business needs in partnership business leaders across the enterprise

  • Deliver reset of talent bench strength and robust succession planning by consulting on selection, onboarding, engagement, development, movement/rotation, performance assessment, pay and rewards/recognition in support of business strategy execution

  • Champion a change-capable organization that helps colleagues thrive in a constantly changing environment; orchestrating the pace and process of change (i. e. new rollouts, programs, tools, etc.) to ensure delivery of outcomes by helping leaders to clearly articulate critical few behaviors to inspire colleagues and build openness; assessing commitment and sustainability of change(s) using a variety of methods to gather colleague perspective

  • Establish and monitor organization and talent metrics aligned to business strategy targeted leadership development/coaching that aligns behavior with leadership expectations and drives business outcomes

  • Mentor and grow the world class internal colleague team and support CVS Health in attracting, retaining, and engaging a diverse and inclusive member-centric workforce that delivers on our purpose and reflects the communities in which we work, live, and serve

  • Be a thought partner and ideate with Aetna Medicare leadership team and HR peer group

Required Qualifications

  • 15+ years of strategic Human Resources experience,

  • 8+ years HR leadership

  • Ability to quickly build strong relationships with multiple partners and to coach and develop colleagues at all levels

  • Critical thinking skills; ability to develop, document and effectively communicate strategies

  • Proven ability to develop fact-based business cases across multiple scenarios; experience gathering data, analyzing issues, identifying core causes and address opportunities related to a diverse and dynamic slate of business challenges

  • Project and change management skills to respond to short- and long-term business priorities

  • Proven communication and collaboration skills with business leadership as well as HR peers and centers of excellence

  • Seen as trusted business advisor

  • Travel up to 20%

  • Hybrid Role - based in Hartford, CT with an expected average of 3 days per week on site (relocation is offered)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Industry experience on either Health Care or Insurance

  • HR leadership roles supporting large, multifaceted organizations with revenues in excess of $25 billion

The typical pay range for this role is:$285,000.00 - $315,000.00

This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors. This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above. This position also includes an award target in the company’s equity award program.
